Messages - Vaati

"You don't know any other Rito? Hm." Vaati shrugged lightly. He could have put it bluntly and said Medla needed to get out more or that her home must be in the epicenter of absolute boredom out in complete nowhere, but that would have been needlessly rude. "That is rather unfortunate. Be sure to rectify that as soon as possible, or else if you ignore your curiosity, it will condemn you. Living a life rife with 'what ifs' and 'maybe' is not healthy." Vaati advised prior to moving in the defense of the Twili.

Vaati bowed lightly to the Twili as a polite greeting. "Ah, pay it no mind, my good fellow. I do so despise such unfortunate ignorance displayed by some, but everything is—" For a moment, something caused a slip up. "—alright." Vaati could've sworn he heard something. At first he ignored it in favor of continuing what he was saying. "Hm. Did anyone hear something?" As if on cue, he heard something properly, a voice called out to him in his mind. He knew this invasive ability well; and had appropriate defenses against it. Multitudes of mental blockages and walls, whoever ended up prying would be met with some stunning resistance. Even so, Vaati at the very least listened, he was always curious about this sort of suspicious and arguably 'evil' sounding activity as he could more than likely study it...

Unfortunately he wasn't particularly impressed. Whoever this was that reached out to him (and theoretically several others), they fell prey to several pitfalls that Vaati himself wanted to avoid lumping himself with. Was there darkness at the core of his being? Perhaps, but to him it was the same with all beings. The talk of an ultimatum and a very specific phrase to be said set off several warnings for the mage. There was a chance he would become a puppet if he responded with that phrase, and he wouldn't be having that. Vaati only ever played by his rules. It was lucky that Vaati wore a mask at this moment, or else the cringe his expression contorted into would make children cry. True nature? Rivaling Ganondorf? Elusive birds? Love? Absolutely preposterous. Vaati was a scholar, seeking to decipher morality. Ganondorf was a violent brute with pride and power unrivaled, birds were everywhere and Vaati only loved his own study and work as an alchemist.

Vaati furthermore saw no need to open himself up to anyone, he was in it to win it on his own right now. Even then, Vaati simply wanted to enjoy himself today. Evidently the universe sought to conspire against that. Mulling over his options following the mysterious mental message, he figured that someone able to suddenly encroach upon him like that had some formidable power behind them. Given his expertise on the realm of evil and darkness, Vaati surmised that it was in fact the same person that would bring the wind of death. 'An hour...' He idly mused as the troop of guards finally returned. Their captain continued spitting and snarling like the dumb animal he was and Vaati barely registered what he was saying. 'Hah. Can't have been a traitor if I was never on your side. What a dim witted troglodyte...' Vaati thought as he sighed. These guards won't be of any help... In fact, if Vaati decided to explain what he heard, that would only land him in hotter water. "No." Vaati flicked his wrist and a tight swirling magical wind flew around him, impeding the progress of any guards that tried to come near him. "That will not be necessary. I know when I am not welcome, so I shall simply leave this festival entirely." Vaati floated upwards, just above the group. "And, I shall be taking these proper, kindhearted upstanding citizens with me, if they choose to accompany me." The same wind that lifted Vaati swirled around Brimick, Medla and Galte, and should they take Vaati up on his offer, they too would be lifted. "I bid you adieu. Farewell." With the swish of his hand, he (and anyone that wished to leave alongside him) would vanish...

Only to reappear on the ground well out of Castle Town's boundaries behind a thick set of trees. "Hmph. What a disaster. So much for a day off." Vaati grumbled, taking off his mask. "Went to the trouble of creating this outfit for nothing too. Ah well." Looking out from behind a tree, he saw the lights of Castle Town in the distance. 'Hmm. Perhaps I could at least do this... Bringing some magical power together again, Vaati began to whistle. As a result two swirls of translucent cyan-teal energy appeared in his hand. With one last exhale towards it, the spells flew away, back towards Castle Town.

One, went towards Raven. When it caught up to him, it flew around him and Mipha before stopping in front of Raven and dissipating; revealing the sound of Vaati's voice, which Mipha could also hear.

"Sir Raven, this is Vaati. I have sent a whisper of the wind to give you a message. A troop of local guards has seen it fit to bother the gentle Twili Colossus that came along. Myself, Brimick and Medla stood up for him, but the guards were having none of it. I cannot stand it when people pin others as monsters or anything similar purely for their appearance. You too are guilty of this, for as soon as you saw my face your expression changed, but instead of making a scene, you simply moved along. As such, I forgive your attitude. Not so much the guards. That being said... I have had a bad feeling about something ominous and magical approaching, so I have taken my leave of the festival. Selfish, I know, but regrettably it seems my assistance or presence would not be appreciated... Until we meet again, on hopefully better terms."

The other spell flew through the festival silently in search of Sivilu. Upon finding her, it waited until she was as alone as possible before floating in front of her face and dissipating. Once again, the sound of Vaati's voice could be heard by her.

"Madam Sivilu, this is Vaati. I have sent a whisper of the wind to give you a message. I spotted you earlier, didn't get a chance to say hello unfortunately. That Raven fellow seems to dislike me. I haven't a clue why, as we have never met until this night. The point is, he seems to act positively towards you, smitten even? No matter. I have a favor to ask of you. Warn him. I heard a voice in my head that spoke of an ominous event to come within the hour. The 'winds of death', she said. If anyone is to know of this incoming danger, it should be the hero clad in green. Be safe."

"Indeed, Brim, I would agree that it is quite inspiring to see youthful folk take responsibilities seriously" Vaati nodded, allowing Brimick to go and greet the Twili. If they weren't causing trouble there was no cause to act. Perhaps they were the more mild mannered sort, or at least keenly aware of their surroundings.

Speaking of one's surroundings, Vaati caught Sivilu's gaze, and returned the nod with a small friendly wave. In a costume as goofy and gaudy as the one he currently wore, it was pretty hard to miss Vaati if you knew him.

Turning his attention over to Medla. "So they are protective of you for some reason then? You seem capable enough to at least do cursory searches nearby your place of residence or something along those lines. Do you perhaps have any Rito comrades? Maybe they can tell you more." Vaati reassured with an extra spark of enthusiasm. If there was one thing he could applaud in anyone; it was the thirst for knowledge, truth, and an innate curiosity. "Perhaps I could be of some assistance, particularly if you come across trouble? I might not look like much, but I know how to work magic. If all else fails, a good potion or enchantment brew could also be helpful to your quest."

More merriment began to brew as several more notable faces appeared in the crowd. A strange and endearingly excitable red-head by the looks of things— at least somewhat proficient in a form of wind based magic.

Nearby, Raven once again excitedly exclaimed upon seeing another that he was supposedly acquainted with, and hearing him call out made Vaati double take. 'Wait, Mipha?' Sure enough, the royal red scales and somewhat short stature for the Zora sub-species she was more or less confirmed any suspicions. 'What in the world is she doing all the way out here... Surely she isn't here just for the festival?'

Ruminating on those thoughts for a moment, Vaati caught the sight of some trouble. A small troop of Hylian guards converged upon an otherwise docile member of the crowd; that one Twili Colossus from earlier. What was their problem? He wasn't doing anything at all besides existing at this point. "Excuse me, Medla, I have some ignorance to quell." Vaati said as he swiftly semi-glided along the ground towards the scene of awkwardness. Vaati had caught the end of the conversation and was quite pleased to see that while obviously offended in some manner, as they should be, the Twili was capable of being reasonably calm. Brimick acted similarly, bringing up good points. 'Monsters' and those of 'evil' would indeed typically behave that way at least 87.76% of the time, and Vaati knew that. "Unfortunately, I know not of any potion or other medicine that cures baseless bigotry such as this." Vaati added calmly. "A dedication to one's profession, craft or position is commendable. Laziness, tomfoolery and abuse of position is not." Though stern, Vaati was not without his kindness, it always payed to see the other side of the story. "Good sir it is a day of festivities, what could possibly have the guard so wound up all of a sudden?"

3
"Ah, I see. It seems that I have simply heard of his boisterous and loud claims by word of mouth then. He certainly has some big shoes to fill all things considered. Perhaps he is acting out because of that?" Vaati asked in a contemplative manner. "Rugrag... Hmm, that name somewhat rings a bell; from what I've heard he is rather young. I could be wrong again though; I've only really been to Snowhead on business related matters."

Vaati shrugged, shortly turning his attention to Medla's questions. "That I do, I am a traveling alchemist by trade." Speaking of alchemists, something of a 'business colleague' made their way into town; a Gerudo by the name of Sivilu. Vaati took note of her presence with a cursory glance from behind his mask, but chose not to disturb her, mostly because Vaati saw Raven moving to greet her. It would be ill mannered to suddenly approach, and Raven near enough looked like he wanted to stab Vaati all of a sudden. Like any other person with some form of self preservation, Vaati liked to avoid being stabbed. "Oh, so you haven't been to a Rito settlement as of late? Surely you are curious as to the customs of your people? I too have heard that place is veiled by magic, I personally have never been there either though I do have a contact that I trade wares with that is from there."

Another interesting addition meandered their way into the party; a stranger that looked very much like a Twili Colossus. Vaati secretly being not only sorcerer of the dark arts, but regularly attentive to the vibes of magic around him due to his travels could quite easily tell. Unlike what is typical of Twili to do being that they're known mischief makers in many circles of conversation, this one seemed quite meek and mild mannered. Vaati's thoughts on the matter were thus; 'Huh. Neat.'

4
"Well then. That happened." Vaati blinked, keeping a neutral expression and mannerism under his mask. Internally, he was confused as to why Raven suddenly became so stern and rude with him. 'Goodness gracious, quite the rotten turn of mood... What could I have possibly done? Hmm.' He shrugged to the other two that remained; Brimick and Medla. Vaati looked over to the old lady working at the bakery stall and held a hand up. "Oh no, I had lunch before I came here, thank you though." He said politely as he moved along the path motioning for the other two to follow if they so desired, he otherwise busied himself with looking at other stalls and such. 'It seems she has mistaken the banter me and Sir Raven were having... How embarrassing.'

Instead of hounding Raven, as that would be properly rude, Vaati decided to just strike up further conversation with the Goron and Rito. Firstly, Brimick brought news about the Snowhead hierarchy, and it was quite welcome and momentous news! "Oh, is that so? Darmani the fourth, is it not? Interesting!" To Medla, Vaati bowed slightly once more, glancing towards the direction Raven went when Medla voiced concern. "Fret not, it simply seems I may have offended him somehow? I shall not bother him further until I know what to apologize for. Anywho, I hail from a land a long ways away from these twin kingdoms of Hyrule and Termina. In a forest village far faaar beyond the furthest mountain of Hyrule's border; Mount Crenel. I'm a free spirit, I go where the wind takes me, that is why I have been here for many years by now. What of yourself, Medla?" Vaati asked, genuinely curious.

5
Vaati tilted his head, curious as to why Raven might look at him so coldly. "Is there something on my face? Or, well, is it my face? Did I do my makeup wrong?" He asked, looking over his shoulder and around himself as well before returning to Raven with a whisper. "Or is there something lurking? Did you see something nearby?" Vaati sighed. "Regardless, if something is lurking, you're here, so we're all pretty safe, wouldn't you say, Sir Raven?"

To the Goron and Rito, Vaati bowed politely, Raven took charge with a bit more of a 'chivalrous' action befitting a former knight. "Greetings to you, if you did not overhear; my name is Vaati." First he looked to Medla, an energetic tone to his voice. "Ah, so you are a nomad as well? I am a traveling alchemist, you see. Perhaps I might have purchased wares from your family's business once or twice." Overhearing Raven converse with Brimick, Vaati noted the awkwardness from the Goron; who didn't seem to understand what the Hylian warrior was expressing. Vaati, being well versed in the intricate differences between the two lands of Hyrule and Termina, he could recognize where Brimick was potentially from. "Oh, you must be from Snowhead then, yes?" Vaati, knowing the Goron greeting of that region, performed it as a sign of respect; fluidly matching Brimick's actions from earlier. "I haven't been up there in a good while, how have things been up there?"

6
'An interesting fellow in person as well, I see...' Bowing, the stranger lifted his mask slightly to show his face as a gesture of politeness. "Indeed, Sir Raven, indeed— Ah, yes, where are my manners. My name is Vaati, I am but a humble traveling alchemist here to see the sights in the kingdom of Hyrule. I tend to wander Termina, you see; people need my expertise there far more often than they do here." Straightening himself out, Vaati donned his mask again. Behind it, he could covertly examine the crest of Hyrule Royalty that was on Raven's person. "Hyrule does have a good market for ingredients to help with my wares though. Who knows, I might find something here at this festival." He mused with a light shrug.

Moments later, a duo comprised of a Rito and Goron had come along no doubt drawn to the sweet smell of cookies. Vaati could hardly blame them. "Hello there," He greeted with a wave. "Enjoying the festival?"

'Hmm. An interesting turn of events, I say... This Festival Of the Fallen.' Was the passing thought of a being quite fittingly suited up for the occasion. Now normally this individual would very much indulge in over the top flamboyant clothing choices for the sake of his own amusement, but this time he could throw in some extra pizazz! Over his casual black tunic, pantaloons and traveling boots, this stranger wore something combining the ominous vibe of the undead, the underlying vibrancy of the festival and his own undeniable flamboyance. Having just acquired the final peace of his costume; a Re-Dead mask; he strolled on in to the main section of the festival; and was given his own lantern for the proceedings later. "Thank you kindly~" He spoke politely as if he was a refined noble and went on his way with a bow to those that were providing assistance to the festivities.

Hoisting the lantern under his arm, the man put the Re-Dead mask over his face. 'Oh my, rather high quality material and feel for such a large festival~! What a joy~' Waltzing along the paved path the band was playing a merry tune, and the man in the Re-Dead mask did his own graceful jig as if he was walking on the winds themselves as he passed.

Soon enough he came across a baked goods stall where a local elderly woman set up shop. "Hmm?" With a quizzical tilt of the head, attention was brought upon the person clad head to toe in a very... Interesting shade of green, with a much more perplexing choice of clothing otherwise. For a moment it was as if something long forgotten was found. The thought didn't stick around for long, for as soon as that man turned around, his face was revealed. Almost everyone knew that face. "Well I'll be! If it isn't Sir Raven!" A delighted tone came from behind the mask. "Grandma Necata's cookies are quite something, aren't they?" Was a question posed with a little bit of wit behind it. It wasn't often that people saw a hardened battle-ready warrior with the expression Raven had momentarily after having but a taste of the chocolate cookie.
