One moment he hastening towards the gates and the next moment he was running as fast as the wind could take him, which was pretty dang fast. 'That fog, this wind. It's poison, I cannot be touched by it!' He saw what it was doing to people, and then the poes started appearing, clawing at him to try and pull him into the toxic fog. "BACK! NO! SHOO!" He blasted one away from him and then saw a couple getting dragged by 3 more. Maneuvering his arms, he created a ball of swirling air he jumped on and guided his temporary ride to the civilians. He quickly brought out his sling and shot 3 well-aimed stones at the poes. Direct hit, Vaatu reached down and grabbed the pair by the backs of their clothes and flew them over towards the barrier. He saw more people that needed help but he couldn't stop, he knew if he did his own efforts would be wasted.

Finally, he reached the barrier, he threw the two unceremoniously inside and reached deep into his bag of holding. The colorful fabric of his flying carpet was drawn forth and the enchanted item knew its master was in danger, it quickly swept Vaatu up and the red mage clung tightly as he shot into the sky towards the closing hole in the black fog, flying at a neck-breaking speed. He made it! He cleared the dome of fog and only chanced a look back when he knew he was high and far enough away from Castle Town.

"To curse an entire town like that. Just what kind of evil is this kingdom facing?" He hovered a moment there. He had read of the legends Hyrule had recorded, tales of evil rising up only for the chosen hero to come and save the people, Vaatu wondered if history would repeat itself or if Hyrule was to be lost in this new darkness. "if it's not stopped, other lands will be affected and if that happens... what of my people?" the tribesman could not bear at the thought of seeing what he loved destroyed. He shook his head. "I have to help stop this. I'm no chosen hero but perhaps there can be something I can do." He thought and thought and then had an idea. "That wind mage. Perhaps I can find him." Granted it was a half-baked idea, but he couldn't do this alone, and the more the merrier, they say.

With this decided, he flew further across Hyrule listening to the wind for guidance.

Before Vaatu could get his answers he had been rudely shoved. He easily regained balance and his usual bubbly, child-like countenance took a backseat to irritation and logic. He did not care to be treated that way. Not in the least. "You're making a cumulonimbus out of an altocumulus." he said plainly to the captain, "You are not casting the best light on a great kingdom like Hyrule with your behavior."

He would have said more but suddenly the wind picked up and he recognized it for wind magic. Vaatu turned his eyes to the source of the energy becoming transfixed on the handsome violet mage. 'I thought my people were the only ones who could control the air like that.' His own wind magic reached out and acted as a conductor, redirecting the powerful blast of air away from his body so he wouldn't get blown off his feet like the guards.

Vaatu watched in delight when Vaati lifted the oppressed in the air to safety and poofed into thin air. "Oh, that was cool. I want to learn that spell." Teleportation was always so convenient. The red wind tribesman regarded the guards a moment and made a casual sweep of his hand, a subtle cast of his own magic on the wind. He may have aided the current breeze keeping them back and may or may not have increased its velocity to a 'captain of the guard'-knocking-down speed temporarily in a sort of payback of being shoved. His child-like countenance was back with a rather immature retaliation.

Now with that in play, he figured it would be best for him to leave and explore the rest of Hyrule. Vaatu quickly turned and strode at a quick pace away from the armored men.

Vaatu took a survey of his surroundings, so many interesting races, some familiar from the books he read, and some he didn't know about. A need to learn about these new species, particularly the black and very light greenish skinned giant, the poor man looked like he was being discriminated by some of the castle guards, it did seem that was a common thing in Hyrule, sadly enough. Deciding that he wanted to say something nice to this person of interest, and perhaps also acquire more knowledge, he more or less skipped over to Galte and gave a bow in greeting.
"Hello, sir! I hope I'm not disturbing you. My name is Vaatu, I'm a seeker of knowledge and wanted to know a bit about you if I may be so bold." He said with a smile and offered his chocolate snaps as a peace offering. "I couldn't help but notice the attractive colors of your skin, it's quite fascinating. May I ask where you are from? Oh, and how tall are you?" He liked tall people, for a man standing at 5'7" he was a bit on the shorter side of the spectrum of male height, at least in his tribe.

It didn't occur to Vaatu that he could be making several social errors by this sort of approach, he was curious by nature although somewhat recklessly so.

High in the sky above the festival, a young man seated on a flying carpet looked down at the lights of Castle Town below and checked his atlas. "Yep, this is the place! Hyrule here I come!" He stood up on the magical rug and directed it to fly down in the darker parts of the town out of sight of the people. The rug obeyed his command and dived down to the ground below, Vaatu gripped the thick fabric with glee as they descended at an incredible speed only to slow to a stop at the last minute. "Whoo! That was fun! Much better than the last one. Good thing you avoided the clotheslines this time." He laughed, hopping off his ride. The carpet hovered then as its master held out his bag of holding, the rug rolled up and dropped into the bag. One would be amazed that a bag so seemingly small could contain such a large item, but that was magic for you.

Vaatu skipped down the alleyway and squeezed through two booths and took in the sights and smells. Ah, this was delightful! He had heard stories of Hyrule and its splendor but to actually experience it firsthand was what he dreamed about. "Festival of the Fallen... I've read about that." He said to himself, recalling the pages describing the meaning behind the event, however, his attention was drawn away by a booth containing masks. "OH MASKS! I must buy one!" Probably faster than would deem a normal pace, Vaatu dashed over to the booth leaving a strong gust of wind in his wake, bystanders would exclaim in alarm as their clothes and anything easily blown away would be swept off their heads or in their hands.

The mask salesman would raise a brow at the bouncing strangely clothed young man in front of him, but he smiled anyway. "Hello there, would you like a festival mask?"

"Yes, please!" Vaatu said with vigor, then scanned the masks, trying to decide on what he wanted. He was torn between the one that looked like a white one with the red eye on it or the cream hood with the rabbit ears. Oh, he really liked the rabbit one but... the white one was just calling to him. "I'll take the white one with the red eye, please!"

"Alrighty!" The salesman took down the mask and held it out. "One Mask of Truth, that'll be 20 rupees!"

Vaatu smiles and handed him a small red rupee. "Thank you very much!" He said, slipping on his mask, then turned his head quickly. "What is that smell?!" It was absolutely delightful! He was gone in another burst of air, screeching to a halt in front of the cookie woman's booth. Before she could say anything he pointed to the bag of the cookie snaps. "Hello, how are you today, ma'am! I would like to have one of you good smelling food treats, please! How much?" He rushed out in his excitement.

"Er eh uh..." The elderly woman blinked then smiled, "50 rupees, young man." Vaatu grinned and paid her the price then the picked up one of the chocolate snaps. He never had one of these before. Needless to say, one explosive bite later, he was hooked. "What is this?" He asked eyes wide and almost crying from pleasure.

"Uh... Chocolate?" The woman assumed by the strangeness of the man's mannerisms and attire, she assumed correctly that he was a foreigner. "Do you like it?" At her question, the young man nodded, eyes still wide. She chuckled and watched as he walked away in a chocolate daze, what a strange yet endearing young man.

Vaatu Derecho

Name: Vaatu Derecho
Age: 19 (Adult by LoZ Standards)
Gender: Male
Race: Wind Tribe
Height: 5'7”
Weight: 130 lbs
Build: Lean athletic

General Appearance: Vaatu is a lean man sporting the physical traits of his people e.g. red hair, fair skin, and red eyes. He wears the traditional colors of his tribe. As a tribute to his people's culture, he paints the wind crest in blue on his cheeks, to symbolize his occupation as a traveler.

History:
Vaatu was born in the clouds, he had a happy childhood but despite his parent's and elder's harsh view of the world below, he always had a curiosity to go see it for himself and actually attempted to travel down when he was only a child by stealing his father's flying carpet, but was stopped in time by his father.

Realizing that his hunger to explore the world would not be quelled, his parents promised that they would give their blessing and permission to go only if he mastered all of their magical arts in wind magic, this would guarantee his safety in the cruel world below; he was also instructed on the customs of the land dwellers. Determined to fulfill his dream, Vaatu poured himself into his studies and magic, unlocking great potential inside of him during his years of training.

At last, when Vaatu turned 17, he graduated as an adult from his training. He waited two years before taking his departure, using this time to weave a flying rug for himself and blessing it with the magic it needs to make it an airborne vessel. When he was 19 years of age, he has gathered his supplies and sent on his journey.

Character Strengths & Weaknesses :

Strengths:
  • Magical Being: Magic comes naturally to him, as to all of his people, sometimes he relies on it a bit too much.
  • Marksman: When Vaatu was young he trained himself to use a sling to shoot stones and small projectiles at monsters.
  • Intelligence: Being at top of his magical peers, Vaatu's mind is very developed and is able to recall numerous information from books, texts, and other sources. He also has a fondness for riddles and puzzles.
  • Good with his hands: While he may lack in strength, he excels in physical ingenuity.
  • Superb agility: Vaatu's wind magic can also be used as a levitation aid. He can jump high and far by riding on strong gusts of wind and can slow or deflect falls by creating cushions of air. The constant movement required by this art makes him naturally flexible and agile. Even without magic, he is very acrobatic. He can easily maneuver around an opponent by ducking, jumping, and side stepping, appearing to flow around his challengers without expending any energy at all, letting the opponent tire themselves out and thus creating exploitable openings.
Weaknesses

  • - As strong as he looks: Because Vaatu put himself so much in magic growing up, he never took the time to strengthen his body beyond the basic average need. This gives him a disadvantage to a physical challenge.
  • Somewhat naive: While he's not the gullible gus, Vaatu is a bit naive when it comes to the ways of the land below. The chances of someone taking advantage of his generous nature is great.
  • Claustrophobia – Vaatu hates being in small spaces. When trapped he seeks to get out as fast as possible before he goes into a panic attack
  • Magic Depletion – Once Vaatu's magic runs out, he's cannot use his air abilities until he gets his magic refilled by rest or a potion.

Character Abilities :

1) Wind Magic – Vaatu is able to use his magic to manipulate and control the air around his body for various purposes.

2) Cloud walking – Like the rest of the Wind Tribe, Vaatu's natural magic allows him to be able to walk on clouds.

3) Slinger – Vaatu is very skilled in using the ancient weapon of the sling (not to be confused with the slingshot). He is able to shoot sling-bullets at great distances (300 yards and counting), and hit/kill targets with a single shot.

4) Enhanced speed: Vaatu uses his magic of wind to enhance his movements both in battle and out of battle; he can run swiftly by decreasing the air resistance around his person and even go so far as to sprint across or run up vertical surfaces by generating a wind current behind himself to propel him forward. He can also use this to run many times faster than an average person and maintain this for long periods, allowing him to travel long distances without gliding or jumping.

5) Escape artist – Vaatu is as good as getting into trouble as he is getting out of it. He can turn a nail into a key just as easily as he can work out of some pretty impressive rope work. Vaatu can pick all sorts of locks, and knows his way around some complex knots.

6) Musician – Vaatu plays the ocarina as a past time, he uses this to make a few rupees in the streets on occasion, though most people are more impressed with his magic tricks. He also has an affinity for singing and while his voice is not of siren quality, it is a pleasant sound.

7) Slight of hand – Vaatu dabbles into the parlor tricks of magic with the aid of his quick hands, be it cards or coins, he can make it 'disappear' and reappear in the most obscure of places with ease.

8) Multi-Lingual – Before leaving his home, Vaatu was taught to speak, read, and write in several different languages of the land people e.g. Hylian, Ancient Hylian, Terminian, Picori, Labrynese, Holodrum, and Sheikah. He is currently studying Zora
